Tim's Blog - Virtualization for Free

Virtualization is quickly becoming an important tool for the IT industry. It's already being used for many purposes, from testing software to running virtual servers. What is virtualization? The concept can be mind-boggling at first because most people aren't used to it, but it's easy to grasp. Virtualization is equivalent to running one to multiple computers inside of another. Your physical computer is called the host, and you can have multiple virtual computers being run inside the host.

Tim's Blog - Linux: Worth the Switch?

Many people were upset by the shortcomings of Vista, so some are exploring Linux as an alternative to Windows. There are many flavors of Linux, each with their own special characteristics. Some aim for ease of use, others aim for ultimate customizability, and there are also varieties meant for specific types of systems. For a long time, the Linux community has been trying to appeal to mainstream computer users from gamers to grandmas. Though there have been successful switch stories, there is still the question of whether Linux is worth a try for the average computer user.

Tim's 1st Blog Post - Universal Video Driver!

Hi everyone! I don't know how many people will read this blog. But I guess while I'm here I'll post things useful and/or relevant to IT people. So, to start off, I recently came across a universal video driver. If only they had this back when I really needed it! Oh well. I've already used it in VirtualBox with success and will probably use it again. These should work with most VESA compliant video cards. Windows NT family (includes 2000, XP, etc.)

First General Meeting

Today was the first general meeting of ACM. The turnout was small, however everyone who did show up were very excited to be there and hear about upcoming events, such as guest speakers and the Guitar Hero tournament on 2/15. And of course, everyone was happy to get some free pizza and soda (and honestly, who isn't?) The atmosphere was very relaxed, and I hope that appealed to everyone. I'd like to thank Michelle for helping me set it up, and to Paul and Claudia for helping with the presentation. And of course, to everyone else who showed up.

Pretzel Sale

Just thought I'd let everyone know that the pretzel sale went pretty well. We sold all the pretzels and about half the soda, along with a few Guitar Hero Tournament tickets. Make sure you buy your ticket and tell all of your friends! The winner gets a Wii, and we really want people to come out for this!

Any Feature Requests?

As you all can see each member of the site gets their own personal blog for them to post stories and for readers to leave comments. At the moment the available functionality is pretty basic. I intend to add more features/functions at some point, but with just releasing the new site there are a lot of other higher priority things that need to get done. I would like to hear what features, if any, people would like me to add to their personal blog to make it more like some of the advanced blogging systems I am sure you all have seen. If you have any comments I would like to hear them.
