The Wonders of Handheld Wifi
You'll have to excuse my poor formatting for this post. I figured that it would be appropriate to write about handheld wifi from a handheld wifi device :).
Now that I own an iPod Touch, I've found myself accessing wifi from every part of Temple's campus. I started doing this because one of my fellow ACM members pointed out that I could look up SEPTA schedules on demand. After having this thought introduced to me, I realized that I could get a *ton* of data that I use on a regular basis while on the go. TUmail (and all of TUportal), Blackboard, GMail (and any other web based email service), and so much more. It's almost disgusting how connected and on-demand we've become. If handheld wifi devices were more widespread, instructors could eliminate paper handouts. Homework could be carried with you and electronically submitted without a 5 pound laptop and slow boot times. These are the kinds of devices that people were dreaming aboutf when the idea of the "paperless office" was conceived. The power that these devices afford us is more powerful than any of us probably realize.
I look forward to seeing both acedemia and industry in our area adopting and embracing this technology. I hope that admins and bosses are creative with this new tool and not overly restrictive. W00t to handheld wifi!
