Hello everyone and welcome to a new semester!
Today was our first meeting, our future meetings we’re trying to have more pizza.
What you may have missed:
LAN PARTY ACCOUNCEMENT
We had erm…issues last semester that prevented us from hosting this event as we normally do. Instead, the tentative date is Feb. 24th. We will be sending around another survey to gauge interest in this event, so we can make it as fun and inclusive as possible for all types of members! Want board games? Got it! Cards? No problem. Any non-console games we need a little time to get it on a server, so please give us enough of a notice!
SPEAKERS
We have a number of companies who are currently interested in presenting at one of our meetings. This includes Vanguard, AWeber and Protiviti! We’re also working on having some of our faculty step up, like Rolf Lakaemper and John Fiore. If there is any company you are interested in hearing from, let Events Guy Dave know (dmason@temple.edu) and we’ll get in contact with them.
We have a couple of officer positions that will be opening up. If you are interested in any of the positions, stop by the office (Wachman 450) and make your presence known! There will be more information about this at our next meeting.
And last but not least…
Our local Microsoft Student Rep. is encouraging us to take the Imagine Cup IT Survey. More information will be sent out via e-mail, so keep an eye on your Inbox from something from the CIS ListServ! The e-mail will include information about the survey, as well as instructions on how to properly submit your answers for a prize (Xbox Kinect game)!
Thanks, everyone!

Hey Everyone!
In case you missed today’s meeting, here’s an idea of what’s going on.
Tutoring services and prices are available. Tutoring for non-members is available for $10, while tutoring for members is currently priced at $5. Having trouble with your classes? Stop by the ACM Office (Wachman 450), or shoot us an e-mail with the topic or class you’re having issues with and we’ll be sure to help.
Rose McGinnis and a Resume Mania workshop will be here next Wednesday @ 5pm in Wachman Student Lounge. Bring your resumes!!
Our VP Matt Shirley has been in contact with the Delaware Information System Security Association (ISSA), which will be having their next meeting on December 9th. There will be more details to come. If you are interested in attending their meeting or learning more about their association, see their website or e-mail us, and we’ll try and get them to present at one of our meetings.
Philly IGDA will be having their chapter meeting the second Saturday of November (November 12th)! They are currently no longer meeting at Drexel University, but in Old City. Information about the meeting, and other events hosted by Philly IGDA, are available on their website.
And last, but not least:
The ACM Lan Party is right around the corner! Please help us by completing this survey and passing it around. It will help us to get an idea of who’s coming, what games you guys want to play and what everyone’s bringing so we can better allocate Ethernet cords, power strips and space!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEdWTnRsOHZaR0lKZmp6U3o1VG1ELUE6MQ
Currently there is no set list of games or otherwise constructed for the event. If you have something you would like to see or play, please let us know in the survey!
Thanks for your time!

Hey Everyone!
In case you missed yesterday’s meeting, or maybe you just are having trouble remembering a couple of topics discuss, here’s a quick little recap.
Firstly, congrats to our newest officer, Geoffrey Allen, in the Marketing position!
As you can see, our website is working, which means we can accept online registration again! Follow the directions here to join. Remember, there are numerous resources exclusively available to ACM members, not to mention it just looks impressive on a resume.
We have a couple of presentations in the works, notably:
There have been requests for trying to get speakers from smaller companies. If you have a company that you are particularly interested in hearing from, let us know! We can try and get in contact with that company, and maybe get them to give a presentation at one of our meetings.
Tutoring prices and schedules are still in the works, but there WILL be services available in the near future! Meanwhile, there is a schedule already set for the Help Desk located on Wachman Hall, 2nd Floor, in the room behind 209 and 207. Schedules for the Help Desk are posted throughout Wachman Hall, most notably outside of the ACM Office and on the 2nd Floor. Also, the MSRC is offering help with Discrete Math now, so please take advantage of these resources before you fall behind!
It’s time to start formulating ideas for our Lan Party! Currently, the date is set to Friday, December 2nd (right after Thanksgiving break, but right before exams). If you have any suggestions on what you want to see or play there, shoot us an e-mail at tuacm@temple.edu, or to any of the current officers. We will need plenty of volunteers for the initial set up, so a large event like this is a great way to get involved! Shoot us an e-mail with any comments, suggestions or even if you’re just interested in getting involved.
Speaking of Lan Parties, the ACM Chapter at LaSalle University is having a Lan Party of their own this Saturday (10/8), 10AM – 10PM located at Holroyd Hall. If anyone is interested in attending, please e-mail me (lisa.kirk@temple.edu) and I can get you more information.
One of the last topics brought up was an idea for a charity. Child’s Play, started in 2003 by these guys, have raised millions of dollars to donate to children’s hospitals around the country in order to help alleviate the anxiety, stress and even depression associated with the types of treatments children would have to undergo during their stay in a hospital. Especially during the holidays, children can have it very rough, and having a new game to play, movie to watch, book or gadget to play with can raise their spirits tremendously. There are multiple ways to get involved, which includes contacting the hospital and being hands-on, or picking something from CHOP’s Amazon List and raising the money for one of these items. Hell, maybe if we really get this going, we can turn this into a department-wide thing? Just an idea ;)
Remember, Friday there will be pizza in the Wachman Student Lounge as there will be a Student/Faculty Networking event beginning at 2PM! Join us and other members of the department, and get to know some of these great professors in this informal setting.
Take care everyone!
-Lisa Kirk, Secretary
